EXCHANGE BLOIS - SILVOLDE

the Achterhoek tour

by Hidde (Sept 6, 2005)

On Saturday 9 April our exchange week in the Netherlands started. After a nice weekend, the school programme on Monday started. In the morning we had an Achterhoek tour. This means that we had to show the French students some things in our neighbourhood. I was in the group with all the students from Silvolde and of course with our partners. Mr Breton went with us, too.

First we went to the house for the elderly. Here we got a guided tour. They showed us a chamber of a lady who lived there, the kitchen, the common room and they explained a lot of things. All in all it was a nice and instructive visit.

After the elderly house we went to the mill. The man showed us how the mill worked, he told us some history about the mill and something about some different types of mills.

After the mill it was the turn for the church. The shepherd told us a lot of history, how the church got its name, how the church has arisen and a lot of other things. At the end of the visit he wanted to let us hear a song. We didn’t mind till we heard the song. It was very boring and it was 10 minutes long, so we were not very happy after the church visit.

After the church we decided to go to the football fields of Silvolde, because there was not enough time to cycle to another village to visit a farm. Mr Breton was a little disappointed I thought, because in the beginning he said that he really wanted to go to the farm. When we arrived at the football fields we walked a round and saw some old and new changing-rooms, the fields of course and the tribune.

After visiting SPC Silvolde the Achterhoek tour was finished. It wasn’t a very nice activity, but it wasn’t very bad either.
