EXCHANGE BLOIS - SILVOLDE

Project and presentations

by Wouter (Sept 6, 2005)

A few weeks ago I was participating in the exchange project of our school with a partner school in the French city of Blois. An important part of the exchange project were the projects and, as a result of the project, the presentations.

During the preparations of the exchange week our class was divided into several groups. Each group was asked to choose a subject for their presentation or a task, which they would execute during the exchange week.

My partner and I had chosen for managing the technical side of the presentation. We didn’t know exactly what our task was and neither did the teachers we discovered on Tuesday in the exchange week. We didn’t do a lot that Tuesday, but we tried to do something: we talked to another group, which had the direction of the presentations. For lunch we baked pancakes – that was a very nice activity.

The next day, Wednesday, we went with the class to Amsterdam. On this day we didn’t do anything for our presentation, but some other groups took photographs of the activities, which they would use in their presentation the next day.

We were at home at a quarter past ten that day and I was happy we wouldn’t have to be at school too early the next day: we were supposed to be there at 9 o’clock. Unfortunately, we couldn’t start working on our projects, because one teacher would be at school later; I thought because of a problem with his car.

Nevertheless, we could start almost an hour later. It was still not clear what our task exactly was, so we decided with some other groups – which also had an organizing task – that we would forget about our different tasks and work together.

A teacher came to me some time later and he told me that someone could go with him to Mill Music, a company from which we would hire technical stuff like lights and boxes. Another person and I had to decide quickly and we decided that it would be okay if I went with the teacher.

From then on there wasn’t a boring moment that day. Later that day we had built the stage and techniques and during the presentations my task would be to manage the lights. And that was a very great experience. It was great to make a little light show: to fade in and fade out lights; to create some sort of disco effect – when it was necessary; to create a certain atmosphere. I enjoyed it!
