Why did those apparently ordinary women set the world alight ?

Welcome to Wisteria Lane : green and well cut lawns, shining white barriers, clean paths… In short, the rich American suburbs. Everything is all right, til Mary Alice Young, a perfect mother and wife, commits suicide. Her 4 friends, who are also housewives, find a mysterious letter in her house and decide to understand why she killed herself. You will tell me that’s not cheerful. Wrong. This series is a humoristic caricature of the American suburbs. So, why does this program go great guns?

First of all, because of the characters, and particularly these "desesperate housewives". They are :

- Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), around 40 : Divorced and clumsy, she falls in love with her new neighbor, the beautiful and coveted plumber. She has a 12-year-old daughter.

- Bree Van de Kamp ( Maria Cross), around 40 : She’s the incarnation of the perfect housewife, except in the eyes of her husband, and her children. Her husband wants to leave her.

- Lynette Scavo ( Felicity Huffman), around 40 : She was a brilliant businesswoman. She had to leave her job to bring up her boisterous children. Her husband is always on a business trip, that’s why she’s alone with 4 devils and on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

- Gabriella Solis (Eva Longoria), around 30 : bomba latina and ex top model, she’s married with her husband’s money. Her daily occupation : her 17-year-old gardener.

- And last but not least, Edie Britt ( Nicollette Sheridan), around 40. She divorced several times and plays the field. Edie is the "predatoress" of Wisteria Lane. She also plays the plumber, who is not exactly a plumber.

This is a really ironic series, with excellent lines, which is watched by 25 million american spectators for each new episode.

I recommend that you watch it, if you have the opportunity : I think that you will spend a real good time, like me last Thursday.
