March of the Penguins

Once upon a time, a long time ago, a very long time ago before the world agitation, there was another life, a place snowed and iced, where the seasons followed one after the other, leaving this strange “white and blue” world misunderstood ! Luckily, Luc Jacquet, the director, reveals it to us with his film : The March of the Penguin. The animal must overcome the cold, the loneliness, the isolation and the immensity to give life !!! The long March of the Penguin takes him to a safe place to mate, to love and to secure the survival of the species.

Mixing tragedy, love and courage, his adventure and his story is unique : that of a crowd, ready to do everything to give life…

My impressions about the film :

I love this film. I think it is great because it reveals the life of a species that we don’t know. I was surprised by a lot of things in this film. For example, I didn’t know that the Penguin could lie down and slide to move !!! It is very funny to learn that in a film !!! Also, I didn’t know the existence of this long March. This one is very hard. Indeed, a lot of Penguins die !

It is very difficult for them to survive ! Many are killed by the cold, even the eggs are broken by it. Also, others are attacked by eagles. So, living for a penguin is very difficult …!!!

Like after my long Corsica walk path, I realised that we,  human beings, have got a lot of consumable goods (electricity, food at our disposal, heating….)!!!

Finally, I love the music composed by Emilie Simon. It is perfect and adapts very well to the film !!!

So, I recommend to watch this film.

I love penguins and exploiting them for a movie is really rotten. Jacquet made this movie with them because they could not ask him any quid.

I was totally shocked by your reaction, Florian. On the one hand, how do you think that people can discover penguins without seeing them in documentaries, in films? I think filming these magnificient people is the best method to relate their life, to notify their existence to Earth inhabitants.
Have you ever been to a zoo where animals live in captivity ? Do you hope to remain uneducated, without knowing the things that surround us ? Aren't you interested in learning about them ? Besides, do you think they know the value of money? Moreover, they were filmed from a distance, so it is possible that they don't know they were being filmed !

Dear Florian,
You're right. Penguins weren't paid and didn't receive their fee for this movie. You should help them and call the penguins trade-union. The employee's rights are not respected and this situation is completely unacceptable! In the 20th century, penguins are still exploited! Shame on those nasty directors who relate penguins life! It's so awful!! You almost make me cry!

Respecting to your article I agree with most or all of the points that you pointed to. Perhaps you did not talk about the bad things of the movie, like the movie is for children, they show you
penguins as if they were like humans, and they are not. On the respects to the movie I really like, like you I really did not know anything or very little about penguins and this type of suffering in the march. It is perhaps a litlle bit hard because they are all the time suffering for an egg or a son that perhaps will die (very probably). Another point I would like to talk about is ¿why so far away from water?
I think Morgan Freeman's voice suits the movie excellently, which is the director's merit.
The movie also does not give any scientific information and leaves all the explanations to the images, and perhaps this kind of movie needs that type of explanation. If you really like penguins or if you do not know anything about them I really recommend you to watch it.
