Biography

Placebo is a pop rock band which is composed of Brian Molko (singer and guitarist), Stefan Olsdal (bassplayer) and Steve Hewitt (drummer). The story of Placebo starts when, after living in Luxemburg during his childhood, Brian Molko moves to live in England. He meets Sefan Olsdal, a childhood friend and invites him to have a drink in a bar where he plays with his band. Stefan is impressed by the performance of the band and he asks to join the Band. At the beginning, the name of the band was Ashtray Hearts, but they soon change for Placebo. At that time, Brian Molko sings and plays the guitar, Stefan Olsdal plays the bass and Robert Schultzberg plays the drums.

They write and produce their first album called "Placebo" in 1996. Immediately, Placebo music is acclaimed by the press and the public. The most famous singles are "Nancy Boy" and "Bruise Pristine". The success of the band is also due to the personality of Brian Molko, a very rock’n’roll attitude. But Brian Molko and Robert Schultzberg don’t get on well and Robert Schultzberg leaves the band. Steve Hewitt takes his place and Placebo is settled. In 1998, a new album comes out. More pop, "Without you I’m nothing" is more accessible and Placebo, thanks to a big promotion, becomes a star with a very famous single "Pure Morning". Two years later, they put out a third album, "Black Market Music", which has the same success as the other.

In 2003, after a long wait, the public is rewarded with a new album "Sleeping with the Ghosts" and a lot of singles like "Bitter End" and "Protect me from what I want". In France "Protect me from what I want" will be sung in French with a very big success.

Placebo has just released one live, his concert in Paris, and a best-of on CD and DVD. The DVD is composed of all the clips of Placebo’s famous songs, a commentary of the band and a lot of Bonus. I recommend it because it’s a very good and very interesting DVD and I think it’s a good way to discover Placebo.

Hey... I like your article very much 'cause I love Placebo's music... and at this moment I'm quite sad 'cause here, in Argentina, Placebo're going to have a concert in Luna Park but the tickets are too expensive and I don't have the money needed to buy one! =(
Anyway, my friends'll be there and I'll lend them my video camera so I will see what they record later...
